ELO ENHANCES SELF-SERVICE CAPABILITY WITH RETAIL SCANNER SOLUTION

Retail touchscreen leader enhances retail customer experience by enabling self-service and scanning on a simplified device

MILPITAS, Calif. — January 19, 2016 — Elo, a global supplier of touchscreen solutions, today announced a broadening of the in-store capabilities of the I-series touchscreen computer with a solution that integrates the Honeywell N5680 OEM 2D scan engine, providing retailers the ability to enable multiple self-service functions in one simplified and easy-to-manage device. Elo I-Series hardware coupled with scan engine support streamlines price checking, endless aisle merchandising, cross-promotion, store promotions, product finder and more solutions throughout brick-and-mortar stores. The solution is designed for retailers who want to take back control of the interactive customer experience in store. It will be available for purchase starting in March 2016.

In the current competitive retail climate, retailers must accomplish more with less from their technology in store. The solution pairs an Elo touchscreen computer or touchscreen display with the Honeywell scan engine technology, creating a flexible and streamlined retail self-service experience that enables merchants to easily broaden scanning capabilities to point of sale (POS) or self-serve kiosks throughout the store. The next generation of retail and hospitality technology requires simpler devices capable of multiple applications. The solution saves money over traditional bulky kiosks while offering greater flexibility in deployment. The addition of 2D scanning capability to the Elo I-Series platform enables interaction with merchandise and consumer mobile devices, driving the connection between online and in-store experiences — a requirement for forward thinking retailers.

Honeywell’s optical design, coupled with world-class decoding software, enables bar code reading from mobile phone displays and challenging retail labels. This custom-fit peripheral is compatible across Elo’s commercial grade hardware family, including the I-Series, X-Series and touch displays.

“Retailers continue to benefit from growing their in-store digital touchpoints, particularly self-service applications,” said Dan Ludwick, vice president and general manager of Elo. “The Honeywell 2D scanner enhances the capability of Elo’s retail technology portfolio by addressing the expanding needs for interactive capabilities of today and tomorrow’s consumer.”

“Elo’s durable touch hardware in combination with the aggressive scanning, compact size and versatility of the Honeywell N5680 OEM engine make this solution an ideal choice for retailers seeking rich media information kiosk capabilities,” said Kai Figwer, director, OEM sales and marketing of Honeywell Sensing and Productivity Solutions. “We’re excited to enhance price-checking capabilities and offer a better customer experience in store.”

Honeywell OEM technology is unique in the market with its offering of “Total Freedom” plug-ins, such as Easy DL for parsing of driver’s license data and remote device management options. These options increase the value of the integrated OEM technology and enable easy upgrading of the device, if necessary.

Elo continues to reimagine POS and retail self-service with solutions that lead the retail technology market. The full retail offering, including the affordable E-Series, adaptive X-Series, interactive I-Series and all-in-one PayPoint cash register, delivers end-to-end innovation. With the Elo portfolio of solutions, retailers can easily implement technology that helps them reward loyalty, engage shoppers, accept new forms of payment and ensure fast, seamless customer service.
